Unopposed candidates move to Nov. election

BY DAVID BEARD The Dominion Post

A number of state legislative candidates were unopposed in Tuesday's primary and will appear on the ballot in November.

Here are the candidates and the number of votes they received. Some races do not show the number of precincts reporting, as the Secretary of State's office did not report that information.

These incumbents face no registered opposition for re-election in November:

State Senate 2nd District, Larry Edgell, D, 8,992 votes.

House of Delegates 45th District, Larry Williams, D, 1,697 votes.

These candidates will face opponents from the other party in November:

State Senate 13th District (one seat), Bob Beach, D, 5,610 votes; Cindy Frich, R, 3,996 votes. Beach is a sitting delegate who decided to run for Democratic Sen. Mike Oliverio's open seat, after Oliverio chose to run for Congress. Frich is a former, two-term Mon County delegate. Former Morgantown Mayor Ron Justice, who had withdrawn from the Democratic primary, tallied 5,943 votes but could not win.

House of Delegates 42rtd District (one seat), Mike Manypenny, incumbent, D: 1,706 votes, Jeff Tansill, R: 985 votes.

House of Delegates 43rd District (three seats), Democratic incumbents Mike Caputo, 6,380 votes; Linda Longstreth, 6,109 votes; Tim Manchin, 5,936 votes. Republican challengers, Rick Starn, 1,976 votes; Travis Blosser. 1,374 votes; Lynette Kennedy McQuain, 1,226 votes.

House of Delegates 46th District (one seat), Stan Shaver, incumbent, D, 1,957 votes; Debbie Stevens, R, 1,268 votes. Shaver held the office from 200V04, sat out a term and returned to office in 2007. He is principal of Fellowsville Elementary School. Stevens won the seat from Shaver in the 2004 election, served one term, then lost to Shaver in the 2006 election. She is a Realtor.

All numbers are unofficial until counts are complete and numbers are canvassed.
