LETTERS TO THE EDITOR (ELECTION 2006)

Vote for Democrats a vote for appeasement

Conventional wisdom, being more convention than wise, deems a Democratic victory. An electorate, besieged by a media drunk with negativity, may be bent on a reactionary, purblind change. One lady friend has declared her intention to vote against any incumbent. It is a political myopia that will purge the good with the bad.

On a state level, the obstacle to progress is the entrenched Democrats who have not been friendly to business. Corporate developers driving underneath the West Virginia welcome signs reading the drab, "Open for Business" know that "business" means high taxes, costly regulations, and a servile relationship with union bosses and the trial lawyers. For the sake of high-paying jobs, these liberal Democrats must go.

Struggling against this political mess are the Republicans, one of whom is Delegate Cindy Frich, R-Monongalia, who has, and will be a champion for true tax reform, not a scheme trading tax cuts for less apparent tax increases, i.e., the family farm. She has been a leader in protecting property rights, and stands her ground on principle. This is an incumbency worth keeping.

On the national level, if one is concerned about higher taxes, continued energy dependence, and the capability to defeat the terrorist through effective surveillance and a strong military, why would anyone send any Democrat back? The Rockefeller, Rahall, Byrd and Mollohan gang have done enough damage. They claim to support our troops, but their votes do not measure up to their rhetoric. They tout an "exit strategy;" they have pitched pessimism; and, witlessly, they inspired the jihad. This is not support, this is undercutting morale.

The soldiers, in the field or hospital, have a message for the American people. "We are winning the battles, give us time to win the war."

Now for the record:

Center for Security Policy, 2003-04, Byrd: 11 percent, Rockefeller: 22 percent, and Mollohan: 42 percent. All Republicans were from 80 percent to 90 percent.

Center for Security Policy, 2005-'06, Byrd: 28 percent, Rockefeller: 19 percent, Mollohan: 41 percent, Rahall: 11 percent, and Republican Shelly Moore Capito: 96 percent.

National security takes a back seat to their left wing base, or perhaps the "troops" they support march for Move-on.org under General Soros.

Ho Chi Minh was speaking to a French general, and this is what he said: "You can kill 10 of my men for every one I kill of you. But even at those odds, you will lose and I will win." He was right, he broke the will of two nations, France and the United States. Today, the Islamic warmongers remember Vietnam and Somalia, and they are listening to the white flag rhetoric of the Byrd-Rockefeller wing of the Democratic Party. In fact, the terrorist have increased attacks to further influence the Nov. 7 elections to bring appeasement to power.

West Virginians ... have you still your perspective?
