Q. Do you support a gradual removal of the remaining 5 percent sales tax on food, as Gov. Joe Manchin proposes, or immediately ending it? If you support dropping the sales tax on food at once, how do you propose to restore the more than $150 million in lost revenue?

A. With current and projected budget surpluses it is possible to immediately eliminate the food tax, resulting in increased shopping, business investment, jobs and growth in state treasury. By lowering the food tax by only 1 percent, we lost that revenue and did nothing to encourage business investment in our state.
