PUBLIC PRESENTATION SCHEDULED AS SESSION NEARS END

~ Delegate Invites Castle Coalition Coordinator to Presentation on Eminent Domain ~

CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA - Delegate Cindy Frich (R-Monongalia) has scheduled a public presentation to discuss House Bill 4048 regarding eminent domain on Thursday, March 2, 2006 in the House of Delegates Chamber. Steven Anderson, the coordinator of the Castle Coalition - a nationwide grassroots network determined to stop the abuse of eminent domain in their communities - will be the guest speaker.

Steven Anderson is serving as the coordinator for the Institute for Justice's Castle Coalition. He educates and inspires property and business owners, legislators and journalists around the nation in the fight to end eminent domain abuse. Attorneys from the Institute for Justice represented Ms. Kelo and other property owners in the Kelo case argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.

"West Virginia is attempting to address, through HB 4048, the fallout from the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. the City of New London, Conn., which allows eminent domain seizures of private property for private development," said Delegate Frich. "I am pleased that the coordinator of the Castle Coalition has agreed to give a presentation to the legislators and citizens of West Virginia on the importance of ending eminent domain abuse."

House Bill 4048 is currently in the Senate Government Organization Committee and will need to pass Senate Judiciary before consideration on the Senate floor.
